Project description
This project repurposes 10ft and 20ft shipping containers donated by an international shipping company, transforming them into a sustainable modular housing concept. The goal is to create durable, ecologically responsible dwellings that combine efficient construction with long-term performance. Despite the limited dimensions of the containers, the design prioritizes spatial comfort, light, and openness, demonstrating that reused industrial modules can offer functional and future-oriented living solutions.
Material selection is central to the concept. A single block of Rosso Persiano travertine serves as the anchor, symbolizing longevity and durability. Its cool, solid presence contrasts with warm, dark timber interiors, whose natural texture and scent provide tactility and comfort. Together, these materials balance strength and warmth, permanence and intimacy.
The design emphasizes sensory experience: surfaces, textures, and acoustics are curated to engage sight, touch, and sound. Timber absorbs sound and offers a tactile softness, while travertine reflects light and adds subtle visual depth. The resulting interior is not only resilient and sustainable but also experiential—an enduring space that invites inhabitation and interaction.
